No. 9 Toros "Own" Coyotes in 1-0 Win

Scott Mariano tallied two shots on goal in CSUDH's 1-0 win.
Box Score
Carson, CA -- A Coyote defender's flick towards his keeper deep in visiting Cal State San Bernardino's zone went terribly awry, and the resulting "own goal" accounted for the lone tally in No. 9 Cal State Dominguez Hills' 1-0 win over a game CSUSB squad.  With the win, CSUDH improves to 8-1-1, 3-1-1 CCAA.

The game was scoreless until CSUSB's Jeff Meyer tried to clear a loose ball to his keeper, inadvertently spearing it over Tyler Kahn's outstretched arms.  CSUSB nearly recovered from that error 10 seconds later as Obi Agwu blasted his shot off Toro keeper Miguel Benitez, seeing the ball skip off his arms and off the post.

CSUDH gained offensive momentum after intermission, with Scott Mariano (pictured) taking a direct kick in the 75th minute that was speared by a diving Kahn, and Kyle Holland's direct kick bouncing off the crossbar, off the keeper, and again off the crossbar where it was cleared by the CSUSB defense.

The Toros outshot the Coyotes 18-8, including 10-3 in the second half, with Benitez making 4 saves on the night, compared to 6 by Kahn.  CSUDH also neeted 4 corners to CSUSB's 1.

CCAA action continues on Sunday when Cal Poly Pomona visits Carson, with first kick scheduled for 12:30 pm in Toro Stadium at the Track and Field Facility at the Home Depot Center.
