CSUDH Close, But Not Close Enough in 3-0 Sweep at Humboldt State

Box score

Arcata, CA -- Senior outside TaMesha Jefferson put away seven kills on 19 attempts as the Toros played host Humboldt State nip-and-tuck, but double-figure kills by the Jacks Lynsey Adams (13) and Joliann Arzadon (10) proved too tough a duo to overcome in HSU's 25-23, 25-22, 25-19 sweep over a game CSUDH squad, dropping the Toros to 1-10, 0-3 CCAA.

After taking a slim 13-10 lead in set one, the Toros held just one more lead before succumbing 25-23.  That close call gave the hosts momentum in set two as the Jacks, after trailing as late as 15-13, called upon their previous set's experience to stage another come-from-behind win in taking a 25-22 set two decision.

Scoring set three's first four points and holding a lead as large as 10-2 in the early going, HSU withstood a Toro run that saw CSUDH eventually knot the game at 14-14 and rattled off 11 of the next 16 points to record the sweep.

As a team, HSU out-hit CSUDH .258 to .134 as the setting duo of Arzadon (12) and Liz Shannon (23) accounted for all 35 set assists on the night.  Ashley Clark contributed 5 kills with a trio of Toros chipping in with 4 kills each in the loss.  Setter Rebekah Wolfgramm tallied 17 set assists while libero Melissa Velasco recorded 9 digs on the night.

CSUDH continues CCAA road play in Rohnert Park tomorrow night when they face Sonoma State at 7:00 pm.
