Clark's Score Leads No. 7 Toros Past CS Monterey Bay in CCAA Opener

Box Score
Seaside, CA - Midfielder Kris Clark made the first goal of his 2008 campaign count in a huge way as the only score in 7th-ranked CSUDH's hard fought 1-0 win at CS Monterey Bay in the CCAA Conference opener for both teams.

The game was scoreless until the 19:05 mark when Carmelo Terranova blitzed  the CSUMB goal line zone off a pass from Kyle Holland.  After his shot was deflected by an Otter Defender, Clark was "Johnny on the spot" as he snatched the rebound and sent home a perfect shot from the top of the box.

CSUDH, still perfect at 6-0, 1-0 CCAA, dominted both halves offensively, out shooting the hosts 20-3, including 11-1 after the break.  Toro keeper Justin Commins made two saves in the shutout win, compared to CSUMB's duo of Brendan Baca and Sam Campanelli, who combined for 11 saves in the otter loss.

Not surprisingly, the offensive minded Toros talied 11 corners to just one by the Otters in a physical contest in which CSUDH was tagged with four cautions and CSUMB one red.

The 7th-ranked Toros continue their northern California road trip at San Francisco State on Sunday, with first kick set for 11:30 am.
