No. 11 Toros Win Physical 2-1 Contest at Western Washington

Box Score
Bellingham, WA -- In a physical contest in which nine cautions were issued, including eight towards visiting and 11th-ranked CSUDH, it was senior midfielder Carmelo Terranova who made his last word count by finishing a 12-yard run in the 55th minute to propel the Toros to a 2-1 win over Western Washington, giving them a 2-0 record to start the season.

It was scoreless until the 32nd minute when WWU's Samir Vejo took a cross from Thler Bjork and finished past CSUDH keeper Justin Commins from 6 yards away for a 1-0 lead.

That advantage didn't last long, however, as junior Mario Guerrero took a Kyle Holland feed and headed his shot high into the left corner past leaping Viking keeper Cameron Copps-Tilley.

CSUDH capitalized on that equalizer nearly 10 minutes into the second half when Jordan Rover fed a streaking Terranova down the left side, and the senior took advantage of his only shot by scoring the eventual game-winner.

Play was physical throughout as the Toros received the first four and final four cautions, the last coming at the 88:22 mark.

CSUDH outshot the hosts 18-7, including 10-5 in the decisive second half.  Toro keeper Commins improved to 2-0 on the year by making 5 saves, while his WWU counterpart converted 3 on the night.

The Toros continue their greater northwest trip on Wednesday as they battle Seattle Pacific University, with first kick scheduled for 2:00 pm.
