Arcata, CA – Cal State Dominguez Hills pitchers Regina Farfan and Kristin Tanaka combined to hold the high-powered Cal State San Bernardino offense to eight hits and two runs as the Toros took a 4-2 win over the Coyotes in Game 8 of the NCAA West Regional, advancing them to the winner's bracket tomorrow, where they will face Western Oregon at 2:00 pm.

CCAA Player of the Year Jordan Dahl started the game with a sharp single to right field for the Coyotes, stole second and was sacrificed to third by Jamie Lowe.  CSUDH starter and former Coyote Farfan, however, fanned Priscilla Curiel looking and induced a grounder to Nicole Camarena to escape the inning unscathed.

Farfan and CSUSB starter Cassidy Lee then took center stage, with Farfan allowing just two hits and Lee no-hitting the Toros through three innings.

Jodi Nakawatase got the Toros' first hit to lead off the 4th, but was out at second on a Liz Vazquez fielder's choice.  Farfan then stepped to the plate and laced a single to right-center, and took second when Vazquez successfully beat the relay throw to third, prompting a Coyote pitching change.

That proved a mistake for CSUSB as Katie Garcia stung a 2-2 offering from reliever Jackie Jacob up the middle for the first run of the game.

After Jennifer Frazier reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases, Jacob fanned Tanaka looking at a 3-2 pitch and Jessica Marlow swinging on a 3-2 pitch, leaving the bases filled.

The Toros, however, continued their hitting one inning later as Jennifer Tellez led off with a booming double to left-center off CSUSB's third pitcher Tawni Baker and came home one batter later on a Nakawatase single and subsequent fielding error by the Coyote center fielder.

Vazquez then blooped a single right over the first baseman's head, and moved to second on a Farfan infield single to deep shortstop, loading the bases for Garcia with one out.  After a Garcia groundout forced Nakawatase out at home, Frazier drove home Vazquez with a bloop single to center for a 3-0 lead, prompting the 4th CSUSB pitcher to enter in Debbie Shisler.

Tanaka greeted the Coyote pitcher with an RBI single to left on Shisler's first pitch, before retiring pinch-hitter Bri Mahr on a grounder to end the inning with three runs scored, and the Toros up 4-0.

The Coyotes mounted a rally in the sixth as Lowe led off the inning with a single, prompting Tanaka to enter for Farfan in the circle.  After a fly out and strikeout on a nasty change up, Tanaka induced a squibber from Camarena, ending the CSUSB threat.

CSUSB had one last rally in the 7th as Toni Beaudette clubbed a line-drive over the left field fence to get the Coyotes on the board, after which Jacquelyn Holtzclaw singled and advanced to second on a Toro throwing error.

Tanaka regrouped to get a fly ball from Tayler Wilson before Dahl brought home Holtzclaw with a single over the first base bag to bring the Coyotes to within 4-2, but the freshman handcuffed Lowe to foul out to first base, sending the Toros onto a match-up with Western Oregon, a 4-0 winner over Cal State Stanislaus.

The Toros, now 30-23, and Wolves hook up for the second time this year after CSUDH took a 9-2 win over WOU in the Tournament of Champions earlier this year.  First pitch for tomorrow's match-up is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
