Warriors Power Past No. 24 Toros in 8-4 (8) and 5-4 Sweep

Senior Bri Mahr drove in 3 runs in the CS Stanislaus sweep

Carson, CA -- Visiting Cal State Stanislaus powered three home runs en route to an extra inning 8-4 game one win, and a 5-4 decision in the nightcap to sweep the first half of the Toros' final regular season homestand.  With the loss, Cal State Dominguez Hill falls to 21-18, 10-10 CCAA, while the Warriors move to 21-17, 14-8 CCAA.

After the Warriors scored in the 1st on two hits and a stolen base, the Toros took the lead in the 2nd as Regina Farfan led off with a single and, after pinch runner Erika Gonzalez stole second, Jennifer Tellez delivered a double to right center to bring her in.  One batter later, Bri Mahr (pictured) brought Tellez home with an opposite field single down the left field line to give CSUDH its first lead of the game.

CSUS replied with single runs in both the 5th and 6th innings to re-take the lead, only to have the Toros tie the game in the 6th on a fielding error by the CSUS center fielder.

That's where the game stayed until the 8th inning when the Warriors erupted for 5 runs to take control of the game, the big blow coming on an Alyssa Guzman 2RBI triple, which the wind helped push away from hustling right fielder Katie Garcia, and a Jessica Scholl 2RBI monster home run to straight-away center, her 4th of the year.

The Toros added a run in the 8th on a Jennifer Frazier single that was ruled trapped by a diving Guzman in center after a terrific effort, but it was too little too late in CSUS' 8-4 win.

Farfan took the loss after tossing 107 pitches, while Jessica Gaumnitz improved to 13-4 in the Warrior win.

The long ball continued to haunt the Toros in the nightcap as CSUS belted two solo shots, including the 4th of the year for Casey Stephenson and another by Scholl, both coming in the Warrior 6th to stake CSUS to a 5-1 lead.

The Toros, however, replied with three in their 6th inning as Christine Bathauer doubled home a run, after which Kristin Tanaka and and Mahr batted in the two other runs to bring the Toros close at 5-4.

Warrior Gaumnitz, however, in relief of starter Jennifer Arnold, got out of the 6th inning jam and retired 3 of the 4 batters she faced in the 7th to pick up her second save of the year.  CSUDH's Kaci Carroll dropped to 3-8 after allowing 4 earned runs and 7 hits.

Frazier enjoyed a 4-for-8 afternoon and Mahr drove in 3 runs in the losses, while CSUS' Meghan Franksen went 5-for-7, with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI as Arnold improved to 8-10 on the year.

The Toros will recognize the entire team and their parents before honoring two two-year seniors in Mahr and Mayra Oliden as CSUDH concludes its regular season homestand against these same Warriors tomorrow morning, with first pitch scheduled for 11:00 am on Toro Diamond.
