Wildcats End Toros' Season in First Round of CCAA Tournament, 62-45

CHICO, Calif. – Cal State Dominguez Hills saw its turbulent season come to an end tonight in a 62-45 loss to No. 18-ranked Chico State in the first round of the CCAA Conference Tournament.  With the loss, the Toros end the 2007-08 campaign at 13-15, a far cry from being chosen to win the CCAA Title in a preseason coaches poll.

The Wildcats, who also are ranked No. 2 in the West Region, improved to 25-5 on the season, and forced 29 Toro turnovers in the 17-point win.

Wildcat Audriana Spencer scored nine points in the first 7:23 of the game as Chico State built a 14-8 lead, one they would never relinquish as they headed into the break up 34-23.

Chico State outplayed the Toros in every aspect of the game sans rebounding, which the Toros won 34-28.  In addition to Spencer's 15 points, Jade Smith-Williams tallied 13 on 5-of-5 shooting.

CSUDH senior Jessica Liang, who scorched CS Stanislaus for 30 points in last Thursday's win that clinched the 8th and final spot in the tournament, was held to just 5 points on 1-of-8 shooting to end her career.

Fellow seniors Alana Bailey and Michelle Kribell each scored eight points in 25 minutes on the floor in their farewell performance, with Bailey also chipping in seven rebounds.

Next season the Toros return a core of solid players led by Brittney Blankenship, who was sorely missed this season due to injury, and four-year players in Ennisha Kyles, Aujaneé Baldwin, and Ashley Johnson.
