Toros Too Late in 60-58 Loss to Cal State San Bernardino

Neka Mixon nearly bested her single-game high, scoring 22 points on the night

Carson, CA -- Despite keeping its second CCAA game close throughout and a huge effort on the part of Neka Mixon, who scored 22 points, the Toros were unable to secure a win against the visiting Coyotes of Cal State San Bernardino and now stand at 3-2 (0-2 CCAA).

An Ennisha Kyles layup from a quick pass from Brittney Blankenship put two on the board first for the Toros, but a stiff Coyote offense quickly gave them the upper hand as they bolted out to a 10-4 lead over the Toros.

A short jumper from CSUSB's Jaclyn Rainville gave the Coyotes their biggest lead of the first half at 9 with seven minutes left in the half. With only one and a half minutes to go, a Blankenship layup gave CSUDH a one-point lead, but a quick response from the Coyotos gave them the advantage of two points going into the half.

The second half held a different story as the Toros kept constant offensive pressure, scoring 31 points as opposed to 27 in the first.

Their biggest lead of the night came when, with 11:54 to go, a Blankenship shot from three-point land put the Toros up 47-44. The Coyotes rallied to reverse the board,  gathering a six-point lead off the hands of Morgan Pryor, who made her own three.

With Aujanee Baldwin at the line off a Coyote foul it seemed hopefull for the Toros as with :42 left in the game and only a two-point deficit they could pull a victory on their home court. Making her first shot, the second missed and was snatched by CSUSB's Pryor. As CSUSB's Krystal Urzua missed a three-point attempt, Baldwin grabbed the defensive rebound and fed it to Mixon for the final two points the Toros would need.

However, a missed Mixon layup with only a few seconds left secured the game in the Coyotes favor at 60-58.

Leading CSUDH on the night was Mixon with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The only Toro to score in double-digits, Mixon garnered additional offensive help from Kyles who tallied 8 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals.

Now 3-2 (0-2 CCAA), the Toros will travel to Fullerton, CA to play Hope International University on December 10th, with first tip set for 5:30 pm.
