Toros Wallop Golden Eagles, 52-33, in Battle of Two Teams Looking for First CCAA Win

Los Angeles, CA -- In a battle of two teams that had yet to win a conference game, Cal State Dominguez Hills used a potent and balanced attack to take a 52-33 win at Cal State L.A. this afternoon, picking up its first CCAA win to close the 2008 calendar year.  Two Toros produced double-doubles in the win, led by Ennisha Kyles with 16 points and 10 boards, and Neka Mixon (pictured), who finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds, adding 4 steals in the blowout.

The Toros were able to secure the energy of the game in their favor early in the first half off a six-point push, led by Mixon and Ashley Johnson, to bring them to a nine point lead at 16-7.

A similar 6-point streak halfway through the first, this time led by Kyles and Kayla Huckabee, saw the Toros ahead by 13 at 23-10 and ensured that the Golden Eagles would not decrease CSUDH's lead to less than double-digits the rest of the game.

A final jumper from Brittney Blankenship, after she secured a defensive rebound, gave CSUDH the lead by 18 points going into the break.

With two straight shots from the paint, Kyles pushed CSUDH to a 26-point lead, the biggest they have held since a win over Hope International earlier this season.

Kyle's last layup at 4:55 would end the scoring for CSUDH as the Golden Eagles attempted to regain energy towards the end of regulation. A final free throw from L.A.'s Joy Mason, who led her team with 9 points, would end the game at 52-33, giving the Toros their first conference win.

For the first time this season, two Toros landed double-doubles as Kyles and Mixon nabbed respective 16 points-10 rebound and 12 points-12 rebound efforts. At 6'3" Huckabee put in 2 blocks for the Toro defense while Blankenship gave energy to the offense with 6 assists.

Now 6-4 (1-2 CCAA), the Toros will travel to La Jolla this weekend to face off against the Tritons of UC San Diego in conference play on Saturday, with tip-off set for 5:30 pm.
