Toros Keep Streak Alive With 83-58 Win Over Adams State

Rodney Yearby scored 25 points and grabbed 15 rebounds this weekend to be named Tournament MVP
Box Score
Alamoso, CO -- Senior forward Rodney Yearby tallied 11 points and 5 rebounds as the Toros crushed host Adams State 83-58 to finish the Adams State Bankers Classic undefeated and return home with a 3-0 record.  For his efforts in the two games, Yearby was named Tournament MVP.

After the hosts took a 3-2 lead at the 17:55 mark, it was all CSUDH from there.  The Toros bolted to a 38-20 lead at the 2:45 mark on a Gino Riney jumper, eventually settling for a 41-27 cushion on the Grizzlies heading into the break, led by 11 points from Michael Hernandez, who also earned All-Tournament Team honors.  CSUDH shot 48.4% from the field, while limiting ASU to just 29.6% from the floor.

In the second half, CSUDH's advantage reached as large as 59-35 on a Jerrell Smith jumper, and hovered around the 20-point mark the duration of the contest.  Free throws, which nearly caused the victory over Chadron State one night earlier to be in doubt, were converted at a 68.8% rate, putting an exclamation on the dominant victory.

Marvin Bettis chipped in 12 points in 11 minutes of play as 13 Toros saw action in the blowout.  CSUDH dominated in steals again with 11 compared to 5 for ASU, holding the hosts to just 32.1% shooting for the game.

CSUDH continues its road schedule next weekend with games at Grand Canyon University, first battling Fort Lewis on November 28, followed by a contest against the hosts one night later.
