Toros Volleyball Closes Out 2008 Season With 3-0 Loss To Cal State San Bernardino

Marissa Anderson led the Toros on the night with 6 kills

San Bernardino, CA -- Despite a late rebound in the third set,
the Coyotes of Cal State San Bernardino handed the Toros a 3-0 loss in their final match of the 2008 season, proving why they are the No. 2 ranked team in the nation. Posting six kills, Marissa Anderson led the Toros in offense on the night.

The Toros struggled to find their offensive push in the first set, quickly giving the Coyotes a lead at 6-0. Anderson placed the first Toro point on the board but the six that followed were not enough as the set closed out at 25-7.

Looking to close the deficit in set two, CSUDH kept the pressure high with a four-point push off the serving hands of Madison Horsley. Forcing the Coyotes into four offensive errors was not enough as Meghan Haas responded with a kill to end the Toros efforts. A final kill from Heather Rushton ended the set at 25-13.

Twice tying the set in number three, the Toros gave their best efforts against one of the best teams in the nation. The first tie came at 10-10 as a serve from Ashley Clark resulted in a bad set on CSUSB's part. Never more than two points behind, another well-placed ball from Anderson, set by Rebekah Wolfgramm tied the game yet again at 17-17.

With the game in the Coyotos favor at 24-20 and match-point on the line the Toros launched a final assault as Ashley Davison and Anderson put two on the board. However it was too late as CSUSB captured the set and match one serve later at 25-22.

Leading in the offense on the night was Anderson with six kills. Both Kayla Huckabee and Davison nabbed 3 blocks apiece to take the frontline of the Toros defense.

With the 2008 season behind them with a 3-25 overall (2-18 CCAA) record the Toros will now look to the spring to improve in their skill and come out strong in the 2009 season.
