One Set Not Enough As Toros Fall To Cal State Stanislaus in Four

Ashley Clark grabbed her third double-double of the season with 11 kills and 12 digs

Turlock, CA --- Though winning the second set in a tough road-match, against host Cal State Stanislaus, the Toros were unable to secure a second CCAA win as they fell 3-1 (12-25, 25-22, 11-25, 19-25). Again, posting impressive stats and gaining her third double-double of the season was Ashley Clark, with 11 kills and 12 digs on the night.

Unable to find their footing in set one, the Toros quickly fell behind to give the Warriors their biggest lead of the set at 21-7. A three point push and a final kill courtesy of Marissa Anderson were not enough as CSUS secured its first set win at 25-11.

Facing a 7-3 deficit early in set two forced the Toros to come alive offensively, and Anderson did just that wtih a well-placed kill. After a Kayla Huckabee kill and Clark service ace, CSUDH tied the game at 9-9 and subsequently grabbed a lead they would not give up. A final kill from Heather Rushton and a Warrior attack error netted the set in the Toros favor at 25-22.

Again in set three the Toros gave the Warriors too big of a lead as they fell prey to a 7-point streak, due in part to CSUS's Jen Gee and Megan Lohry, who led the Warriors with 17 kills. CSUDH's final push, caused by two Warrior errors and another Anderson kill could only bring them to 11, with a final score of 25-11.

Attempting to force a fifth set the Toros rallied from a 19-8 deficit in set four to bring the game within tying range. Two kills from Anderson and numerous Warrior errors qucikly saw the CSUS lead dwindle to 20-17, but just two Toro points were not nearly enough against the Warriors five as they finished the set and match at 25-19.

Leading the Toros on the night was Clark with 11 kills and 12 digs for her third double-double this year. Rebekah Wolfgramm chipped in with 19 assists and 10 digs for her own double-double. Both Clark and Rushton led in defense with three blocks apiece.

Now 2-21 (1-14 CCAA) the Toros will travel to Chico State as CCAA action continues tomorrow night, with first serve set for 7:00 pm.
