Scott Mariano was solid on both sides of the ball in CSUDH's 2-0 win over Humboldt State
Box Score
Carson, CA -- Fourteenth-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills used a 29-6 shot advantage, single goals by Andrew Marinez and Scott Mariano (pictured), and aggressive keeper play by Justin Commins to take a 2-0 decision over a game Humboldt State squad Friday night in Toro Stadium, bringing their record to 10-1-1, 5-1-1 CCAA.

After taking 13 shots to Humboldt State's 3 in the first half, the Toros finally hit paydirt in the 17th minute after Kyle Holland dropped a pass to the waiting feet of Marinez.  Settling himself, the 5-7 midfielder blasted a knuckle-ball past HSU keeper Drew Ryan for an early 1-0 lead.

That's where the score remained until the 86:06 mark when Mariano intercepted an attempted outlet and beat Drew 1v1 near side for an insurance goal, capping a day that saw the Artesia native continually help thrwart attack after Jack attack in the CSUDH zone.

CSUDH keeper Commins was solid in goal as he made three saves on the night, including an outstretched one-arm variety late in the game, while withstanding contact deep in his zone.

The 14th-ranked Toros next welcome 6th-ranked Sonoma State on Sunday for what could be a postseason showdown, with first kick set for 2:00 pm in Toro Stadium, at the Home Depot Center's Track and Field Facility.
