Toros Efforts Not Enough in 3-0 Loss to No. 19 Cal State L.A.

Marissa Anderson led the Toros with 11 kills in the game

Carson, CA --- Though nearly posting a win in set one the Toros could not seem to grab their first CCAA win as they fell to the visiting Golden Eagles of Cal State L.A. 25-23, 25-17, 25-18. They were led in the night by Marissa Anderson with 11 kills, followed closely by Ashley Clark with 10.

In set one the Toros came out hard against the No. 19 Golden Eagles, quickly advancing to a 19-13 lead, their biggest of the night. Two back-to-back service aces from Clark gave them the push but L.A.'s Gabriela Bulawczyk answered back with a kill to turn the game.

Two more kills from CSUDH's own Anderson brought the Toros within winning distance at 21-17 but as CSULA called a timeout they came back with more engery and won the set at 25-23.

Coming off the bench in set two and again quickly taking a lead the Toros got three in a row with a kill from Kayla Huckabee and a Stacy Wilder service ace. The game quickly changed directions however as Golden Eagle Chelsea Hamilton recorded a kill and put L.A. into a six point streak that would give them the lead the rest of the game. A final three-point push from Clark and Madison Horsley was not enough as the Golden Eagles were able to take the set at 25-17.

Reacting to a five point deficit in set three the Toros were forced to play catchup throughout the game. Though constantly within striking range through the set, offensive erros plagued the Toros as they fell 25-18 for the game.

The Toros were led on the night by Anderson with 11 kills and followed by Clark with 10. Rebekah Wolfgramm handled setting for the offense and tallied 22 assists. Melissa Velasco recorded 11 defensive digs to lead the Toros.

Now 1-18 (0-11 CCAA) the Toros return to the court tomorrow as they host the No. 13 Tritons of UC San Diego. First serve is set at 7pm.
