Tenth-Ranked Toros Blank UC San Diego, 2-0

Box Score
Carson, CA -- Senior midfielder Kyle Holland notched perhaps his easiest goal of the year just over a minute into the game as 10th-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills blanked visiting UC San Diego 2-0 this afternoon in Toro Stadium.  With the win, the Toros improve to 13-2-1, 8-2-1 CCAA.

Just 1:33 into the contest, a streaking Holland took a Greg Piechota feed via Andrew Marinez about 5 yards from the Triton goal and was set to strike.  The UCSD defense, however, stopped its activity looking for a hand ball call, allowing Holland to dribble his shot past stunned UCSD keeper Peter Akman for a quick 1-0 lead.

Carmelo Terranova doubled that lead 25 minutes later after collecting a loose ball 25 yards out and to the right of Akman, drilling his left-footed bender top shelf past a leaping Akman for an insurance goal.

The visitors had their best looks in a second half, but a header gone high and two untouched crosses kept UCSD from getting on the board.

CSUDH keeper Justin Commins lowered his already miniscule 0.17 GAA with four saves in the shutout, as the Toros outshot UCSD 20-9 in the win.

The Toros continue CCAA action on Friday as they host 4th-ranked Cal State L.A. for a crucial conference contest, with first kick set for 7:00 pm in Toro Stadium, at the Track & Field Facility at the Home Depot Center.
