No. 7 Toros Rebound in Come-From-Behind 3-1 Win at CS Stanislaus

Turlock, CA -- Two days after seeing their four-game win streak come to a halt, 7th-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills tallied the final three goals of the day,including the eventual game-winner by Kyle Holland in the 70th minute, to take a 3-1 win at Cal State Stanislaus, all while playing a man down for over 50 minutes.

With the win, CSUDH improves to 12-2-1, 7-2-1 CCAA, while CSUS, which lost for the ninth time in their last 10 games, drops to 2-9-1 overall and 1-8-0 in the CCAA.

The Warriors struck first Sunday in the 11th minute with a goal from freshman Andrew Ruiz, his fourth of the season. Ruiz struck the ball in off an assist from Alfonso Flores to give the Warriors some momentum and a 1-0 lead.

Cal State Dominguez Hills tied the game with a goal of their own in the 32nd minute when Scott Mariano netted a ball off of a free kick from about 25 yards out to make the score 1-1.

In the 39th minute, the Toros' Marco Pulido slid cleats first into Cal State Stanislaus' Chris Silva, for which Pulido was issued a red card and the Toros played with 10 players for the rest of the game.

Playing a man down seemed to push the Toros more, however, coming out in the second half. Cal State Dominguez Hills played fast and agressive, outshooting the Warriors 17-2 in the second half alone, and 23-4 for the entire game.

The Toros would take the lead in the 71st minute when their goalkeeper Miguel Benitez booted a ball all the way to the opposite side of the field off a goal kick. The ball took two high bounces inside the Warriors' penalty area and Toros forward Holland was able to head it past the aggressive Warriors goalkeeper Javier Rosales to give his team a 2-1 lead.

Cal State Stanislaus had several scoring opportunities in the closing minutes of the game, including a near miss by freshman Bladimir Murillo, who shot the ball just wide-right of the goal with about 10 minutes to play.

The Toros would add the final blow in the 82nd minute when #Greg Piechota# took a short pass from Andrew Marinez and buried it just seconds after a similar shot had been kick-saved by Rosales. The goal was Piechota's fourth of the season and made the score 3-1 with about eight minutes to play.

Rosales added eight more saves to bring his season total to 63. Cal State Dominguez Hills took six corner kicks while the Warriors had none on the day.

The Toros return home on Wednesday, October 15, to host UC San Diego for a 4:30 pm first kick in Toro Stadium, at the Track and Field Facility at the Home Depot Center.
