Deann Schlobohm

The steady rise of the CSUDH women’s cross country team within the CCAA and nationally continues with Deann Schlobohm at the helm as she enters her 9th season as head coach of the CSUDH Toros women’s cross-country team.

Schlobohm has guided the CSUDH Track & Field and Cross Country teams to much success over the years, with the most impressive showing coming at the 1999 NCAA National Cross Country Championships as Araceli Martinez took 5th and Donna Mills 6th, and during the 200 NCAA National Track & Field Championships at which Toro legend Carmelita Jeter took 2nd place in the 100 meters & 3rd place in the 200 meters, currently standing as one of the fastest women in the world in 100 meters.

Schlobohm brings over 25 years of coaching experience to Cal State University Dominguez Hills, serving as the head coach for both the women's track and field and cross country programs from 1997- 2001, before making her head coaching comeback in 2009 for the cross country program.

With her previous coaching assignments including Huntington Beach High School and Vanguard University, Schlobohm has developed 10 All- Americans and 10 top 3 finishes in the CCAA Conference Championships, and consistently qualified athletes in every track & field event for the NCAA National Track & Field Championships.

As an athlete, Schlobohm was a standout sprinter at UCLA, a member of the United States National Team, and an American Collegiate record holder as part of the 4x200 relay.

After graduation she competed and trained with the Los Angeles Mercurettes, and represented the US Track and Field Team in National and International competitions around the world in both the 400 and 800 meters as a four-time member of the USA Track & Field Team.

She was honored as “Outstanding Female Athlete” at an indoor international competition in Tokyo, Japan, in 1982 for remarkable performances in winning both the 60 meter and 800 meter races, also qualifying for the United States Olympic Trials both in 1980 and 1984.

Schlobohm is both a graduate of the NCAA Women’s Coaches Academy and a member of the US Track & Field and Cross Country Association.

Taking her coaching skills to other venues, Schlobohm has also coordinated special projects and fundraisers for the CSUDH Athletics Department prior to her return as cross country head coach.

Schlobohm also designed fitness programs for corporate and individual clients and managed and designed fitness centers.

Recently, she was the team manager for the Aquazot swim team at the 2010 Junior National Championships in Orlando, Florida, and the 2010 California/Nevada Sectionals competition in Santa Clarita, California.

A native of Norridge, Illinois, a suburb just outside Chicago, Schlobohm now resides in South Orange County with her husband and two daughters.  Stephanie is a competitive swimmer while Sonja enjoys competing in track and cross country.
