IRVINE -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team came close to notching its first win of the 2026 campaign against Vanguard this afternoon, but ultimately fell to the Lions in a four-set contest, 23-25, 22-25, 25-21, 17-25.
Jaidan Alexander (pictured) paced the Toros with 10 kills while
Anna Sanzaro hit a sizzling .615 on the afternoon.
CSUDH hit .106 for the contest that included .313 in the victorious third set, putting away 16 balls against six attack errors.
In the third, the Toros built a 4-1 lead after consecutive service aces by Sanzaro. Vanguard caught the Toros at 6-6 before a kill by
Dakota Carvo and three-straight points on the strong serve of
Lainey Johnson put CSUDH up 10-6.
The Lions got to within 17-16 but an Alexander kill and VU attack error gave the Toros breathing room at 19-16, with a pair of Alexander kills closing out the set and giving CSUDH its first set win in four matches.
Sanzaro led all players with four aces while
Giovannina De Sisto's 29 assists were tops on the afternoon.
The Toros will host Chico State on Thursday, September 10, to kick off CCAA action, looking for their first win of the 2026 season.
