SEASIDE -- Visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills was held to a .132 hitting percentage while host Cal State Monterey Bay enjoyed a .337 clip, and the result was a 25-22, 25-16, 25-20 decision for the Otters that handed the Toros their second-straight sweep.
CSUDH falls to 1-10 on the year, and 1-3 in CCAA action despite
Dakota Carvo enjoying a team-high 11 kills with just four attack errors, good for a .304 attack percentage.
The Otters took an early 6-3 lead to open the match, stretching their advantage to 13-6 midway through the frame. CSUDH clawed to within 14-12 on an Otter setting error before CSUMB took a 24-17 lead late in the frame.
Behind
Ryann Bennett's serve and kills by Carvo and
Kylie Leopard, CSUDHÂ brought the score to 24-22, but a service error gave the first stanza to CSUMB.
The Toros kept set two close, trailing just 11-9 midway through the frame until the Otters turned that two-point lead into a 24-15 gap en route to taking a two sets to none lead.
CSUDH scored the first point of set three to take its first lead of the night. Up 4-2, the Toros were on the wrong end of a 5-0 run, which CSUMB used to take a 14-9 lead. The Cardinal and Gold, however, scored four-straight behind a kill by
Giovannina De Sisto and two from Carvo to close their gap to 14-13, only to have the Otters score five-straight to take an 18-14 lead.
Another surge by the Toros fueled by
Lainey Johnson's serve and a pair of CSUMB attack errors knotted the frame at 18-all, but the Otters answered with a 4-0 run of their own to take the lead for good, eventually closing out the visitors by a 25-20 tally.
The Toros will look to get back on track at home next weekend, hosting UC Merced on Friday.
