CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills erupted for four goals after intermission to turn a one-goal deficit into a 4-1 win over visiting Concordia University Irvine tonight at Toro Stadium.
Four Toros notched a goal with
Eduardo Moreno Jr.'s score in the 66th minute accounting for the eventual game winner that moves the Toros even at 2-2-2 after their sixth and final non-conference match.
The teams played an even first half with CUI tallying a slim 6-5 edge in shots. The hosts, however, played the aggressor role causing the Eagles to make four saves compared to just two for the Cardinal and Gold.
CUI broke the deadline with a goal in the 20th minute of play, where the score remained after the first 45 minutes.
CSUDH wasted little time before equalizing as
Juan Calderon took a feed from
Duane Baker and blasted his low, splitting the goalmouth just 1:54 in the second half. Less than 10 minutes later, the Toros took the lead for good as
Amaury Sanders rebounded his own shot attempt, hammering it past the CUI keeper at 54:19.
Moreno Jr. added an insurance goal at the 65:49 mark after taking a feed from Calderon, with
David Politron converting a penalty kick attempt with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation for a 4-1 lead.
CUI got a score back two minutes later but it was too little, too late in the 4-2 victory.
The Toros outshot the visitors 17-9 that included a whopping 12-3 edge in the second-half scoring surge. There were 33 fouls called including five cautions, with 10 of the Toros' shots coming on frame.
CSUDH kicks off CCAA action on Friday as it travels to UC Merced for an 8 pm first touch.
