SAN MARCOS -- Cal State Dominguez Hills struggled to find its offense at No. 2 ranked Cal State San Marcos in 4-1 and 2-1 (9 innings) losses to the CCAA-leading Cougars.
The Toros drop to 24-19 overall and 6-14 in the CCAA, and have gone 3-9 against ranked teams this year.
San Marcos took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and tacked on a single run in the fourth before
Gaby Gandara singled home
Michaela Meza in the fifth inning to cut into the Cougar lead.
That would be the extent of the Toro scoring, however, as the CSUSMÂ staff held the Toros to just four hits in the loss.
The nightcap saw CSUDHÂ open the scoring in the third inning as
Marisa Dominguez brought home Gandara, who led off the frame with a bunt single to third base.
That's where the score remained until the fifth inning when the Cougars knotted the contest at 1-1, with Toro pitcher
Audrey Gallegos wiggling out of a 3-hit jam, leaving two runners on base to keep the game tied entering extra innings.
Still tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth, the Cougars walked it off after a leadoff single to hand the Toros their fourth-straight setback.
Gallegos went the distance, scattering eight hits and allowing both runs in the loss.
CSUDHÂ returns home next week to host Chico State, starting on Friday, April 10, at 1 pm.
