TURLOCK, Calif. -- Trailing by three runs entering the top of the seventh inning, Cal State Dominguez Hills put up six unanswered runs over the final three innings of play to take a come-from-behind win over host Stanislaus State to open the Toros' penultimate CCAA series of the year.
Deegan Grgas and
Tristan Usher combined for seven runs batted in while closer
Julian Castro (pictured) tossed the final 2.0 innings of work for his fifth save of the year.
Things looked bleak for the Cardinal and Gold in the early going as the hosts took a 6-1 lead after two innings of play. Grgas and Usher answered with long balls in the third to cut their deficit to just 6-4 before Stan State added another in the fifth for a 7-4 lead.
Quinn Johnson led the comeback with a solo shot in the seven inning, before a Grgas 2RBI single tied the game at 7-7 one inning later. The Toros then took the lead for good after Usher drew a four-pitch walk with the bases full, with
Alex Sepulveda driving a sacrifice fly down the right field line to bring home Grgas for a 9-7 lead.
Zac Ragland led off the ninth inning with a triple, before coming home on a
Dominik Cervantes double one batter later.
Tyler Ohlson picked up his second win of the year after pitching the seventh inning, with Castro closing the door on the Warriors over the final two innings, allowing just two hits with one strikeout.
Grgas and Johnson both stroked three hits in the win as part of 11 total for the visitors.
The two teams play two tomorrow afternoon, with game one of the twinbill set for 1 pm.
