HAYWARD -- Junior
Mireya Rico drove in three runs to spur Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 7-5 victory in today's nightcap at No. 2 Cal State East Bay to salvage one win in the series after the Pioneers opened the day with a 5-0 victory in the opener.
With the split, CSUDH moves to 19-8 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA.
In the late game, Rico began the scoring with a 2RBI triple to right field before scoring on a Pio error to give the visitors a quick start and a 3-0 lead.
After CSUEB scored single runs in the second and third innings to bring the score to 3-2, the Toros added four insurance runs in the top of the seventh on three RBI doubles by
Marisa Dominguez, Rico and
Torie Au, before
Audrey Gallegos brought home Au on an RBI single to close the frame.
That insurance was needed as the Pios scored three runs in their seventh inning at bat and had the tying run at the plate, but Gallegos induced a game-ending pop up to preserve the win.
Nadia Juarez went 6.0 innings for the win (9-3) with Dominguez, Rico and Gallegos each punching two hits.
The opener was all CSUEBÂ as the Toros mananged just four hits in the loss.
CSUDH hosts CS Monterey Bay next week, starting with a doubleheader on Friday, March 13, at 1 pm on Toro Diamond.
