CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills was no match for No. 20 Cal State Monterey Bay as the Otters took 9-1 (6) and 10-1 wins over the Toros to open the four-game series.
Torie Au was one of the few bright spots for the Cardinal and Gold, belting a home run as part of two hits on the afternoon as CSUDH dropped its fifth game in its last six, all coming to ranked opponents.
The opener saw the Otters take a 3-0 lead after three before the Au got the home team on the board with a solo shot to lead off the home half of the fourth inning.
That's where the score remained until CSUMBÂ played six in the sixth, with two Toro errors contributing four unearned runs to put the game away via the mercy run rule once the Toros went scoreless in the sixth.
Marisa Dominguez notched two hits along with Au in the loss.
The nightcap was deja vu all over again as CSUMB scored the first five runs of the game before
Savanna Kastigar got the Toros on the board with an RBI double to right in the bottom of the sixth.
CSUMB, however, answered with five in the seventh to put the game on ice, completing the sweep after allowing just two runs on the afternoon.
The two teams complete their four-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 11 am on Toro Diamond.
