CARSON -- After scoring just two runs in yesterday's losses, Cal State Dominguez Hills' offense awoke to put 15 runs across this afternoon to sweep No. 20 Cal State Monterey Bay by 12-8 and 3-1 scores to salvage a split in the conference series.
Marisa Dominguez drove in three runs in the opener while
Ashley Goodale (pictured) scored four runs in the opener, with
Torie Au driving in all three runs in the nightcap win.
After the Otters put four runs across in the top of the first inning, the Toros answered with five straight runs, with Dominguez driving home two on a 2RBI double in the bottom half of the first, followed by an Au 2RBI single in the second.
CSUMBÂ then scored twice in its next two at-bats to take an 8-5 lead, only to have the hosts answer again with five runs in the fourth to take the lead for good, tacking on two runs in the fifth for insurance.
In the fourth, two Otter errors contributed to two unearned runs, with
Savanna Kastigar and
Andrea Tellez accounting for run-scoring hits.
A Kastigar bases-loaded walk and
Alyssa Martinez sacrifice fly completed the scoring as the Toros roped 11 hits, with Goodale, Dominguez, Au and Tellez enjoying two knocks each.
The nightcap saw the Toros score single runs in the first and third innings, courtesy of an Au sacrifice fly and RBI single. After the Otters cut the Toro lead in half in the top of the fifth, Au got that run back with another RBI single to cap her perfect day at the plate.
Audrey Gallegos earned the complete-game win, fanning three hitters in the process.
The Toros, now at 21-10 overall and 3-5 in CCAA play, travel to Cal Poly Humboldt next week, continuing CCAA action.
