ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal State Dominguez Hills scored 10 runs in today's twinbill at Cal Poly Humboldt, but it wasn't enough as the Lumberjacks scored 15 runs to sweep the Toros to open the four-game CCAA series.
Marisa Dominguez tallied five hits on the day to lead the offense as the Toros fall to 21-12 overall and 3-7 in CCAA play.
The Toros opened the scoring in game one of the twinbill after
Michaela Meza doubled down the left field line to score two in the first inning of play.
After Humboldt tied the game,
Savanna Kastigar broke the tie with an RBI single to right in the third inning, with CSUDH taking a 4-2 lead on one of the Jack errors in the contest.
Up 4-3,
Andrea Tellez drew a bases-loaded walk to provide an insurance run, but the hosts got to Toro pitcher
Audrey Gallegos in their final at-bat to walk away with the win.
Dominguez roped three hits with
Torie Au and Meza collecting two apiece.
The nightcap saw Humboldt take a 7-0 lead after two innings of play, where it remained until the top of the fifth.
That's when the Toro bats awoke, scoring four runs on four hits, with a Meza 2RBI double accounting for the big blow.
CSUDH tacked on another run in the sixth courtesy of an Au RBI double to bring them within two, but the hosts answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth in the eventual 9-5 final.
Dominguez was the lone Toro with multiple hits (2) in the loss.
The two teams wrap up the series with a Saturday twinbill, with first pitch set for an 11 am start.
