TRACY, Calif. -- Cal State Dominguez Hills rolled to its 13th-straight win this morning after taking a 9-1, 5 inning, mercy run rule win over St. Martin's to sweep through the 3-day, 5-game CCAA/GNAC Crossover Tournament.
Torie Au wielded the big stick by going 2-for-3 with 3RBI and 2 runs scored while
Nadia Juarez again was stellar in the circle, going the full 5.0 innings with two strikeouts.
The Toros outscored their opponents 45-7 in the five games.
After the Saints put up a run in the first inning, it was all CSUDH, taking the lead for good in the second on a SMU error and
Torie Au RBI triple, before Au scored herself on a
Dyoni Garcia single through the right side one batter later.
Ashley Goodale tripled the Toro lead in the third with another base knock, prompting a Saint pitching change.
That calmed the Toro bats only until the fifth inning when CSUDH put the game away, scoring six times on seven hits.
Marisa Dominguez began the fireworks with a one-out inside the park home run, before Au drove home two more runs, prompting another change in the SMU circle.
This time, that did nothing to quiet the Toro bats as
Gaby Gandara laced a 2RBI triple to right field before
Makayla Bishop finished the scoring with an RBI single up the middle.
That was plenty for Juarez, who tossed her fifth complete game to improve her record to 8-2 and lower her ERA to a minuscule 1.20.
The Toros kick off CCAA play on Friday as they travel to Cal State East Bay, ranked No. 2 in the NFCA Top 25 Coaches poll, giving the Cardinal and Gold an early-season measuring stick and possible preview to CCAA and NCAA postseason match-ups.
