TRACY, Calif. -- Freshman
Nadia Juarez tossed a 5-hit, complete game shutout while
Ashley Goodale (pictured) smacked three hits and drove in two as Cal State Dominguez Hills opened the CCAA/GNAC Crossover Tournament with a 6-0 win over Simon Fraser.
CSUDH then posted another shutout win in an 8-0, 6-inning decision that was called due to the mercy run rule, with Goodale going 3-for-4 and
Torie Au going deep in the win.
Game one was scoreless until the top of the third until Goodale drove home
Ashlie Nakano with the game's first run. The Toros tripled their lead an inning later, capitalizing on an SFU error to take a 3-0 lead.
Goodale continued her hot stroke later that inning with an infield RBI single, before the Toros used another SFU miscue in the fifth to plate another unearned run.
Nakano then got into the run-scoring action, bringing home
Savanna Kastigar after the third and final SFU error.
Juarez was in complete control in the circle, fanning five batters against just one walk to improve to 6-2 on the year.
The late game was more of the same as the Toros scored a pair of runs in both the second and third innings to take a 4-0 lead, benefiting from a
Gaby Gandara sacrifice fly and MSUB error for their first two runs, and Au's 2-run blast for their next two.
After scoring an unearned run and holding a 5-0 lead after four, CSUDH put the game away two innings later, capitalizing on the final two of Montana State Billings' five errors to score thrice and end the game after six innings.
Audrey Gallegos picked up the win after tossing 5.0 innings and allowing just one hit, fanning five in the process.
The Toros open day two of the tournament tomorrow afternoon, taking on Central Washington at 2 pm and Northwest Nazarene at 5 pm.
