Box Score IRVINE -- Senior
Torie Au stroked three hits as Cal State Dominguez Hills looked to end the Concordia Kickoff Classic with a win, but designated home team Jessup College scored twice in their final at-bat to take a 6-5 win over the Toros to conclude the 25-team tournament.
Just as the Toros placed themselves on the brink of victory after back-to-back singles with the bases loaded in the top of the 7th inning gave CSUDH a 5-4 lead, the Warriors played up to their namesake by answering with a bases-loaded knock to bring home the tying and winning runs to spoil the Cardinal and Gold's would-be comeback.
Dyoni Garcia,
Gaby Gandara and
Marisa Dominguez each collected a pair of hits as part of the Toros' 12-hit attack, with Dominguez crossing home plate twice to lead in that category.
After spotting the Warriors a 2-0 lead, CSUDH took the lead on four hits, with two Jessup errors accounting for two unearned runs.
The Warriors then tied the game in their 3rd-inning at-bat and took a 4-3 lead entering the final inning, when the teams combined for four runs.
CSUDH had its chances but left nine on base, compared to four for Jessup.
The Toros, now 3-2 to begin the year, host Chaminade University for a non-conference doubleheader on Monday, February 2, with first pitch of game one set for 12 noon on Toro Diamond.
