POMONA -- Sophomore
Natalia Walden-Schulz led Cal State Dominguez Hills with nine kills, but host and No. 14 Cal Poly Pomona hit .382 while holding the Toros to just .108 en route to a convincing 25-10, 25-16 ,25-18 sweep tonight in Kellogg Arena.
The Toros fall to 2-19 overall and 1-9 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play with just three matches left in the regular season.
CSUDH mustered just 21 kills after being outplayed in every category as two Broncos tallied double-figure kills.
After the Toros won the match's first point, the hosts went on a 20-6 run to take control of the set in the eventual 25-10 rout.
Set two saw the Toros trail just 6-5 before CPP scored four-straight points to take a 10-5 lead. After a pair of Walden-Schulz hammers broke the run, CPP answered right back with a 5-1 run to push its advantage to 15-8, keeping the Toros at arm's length the rest of the frame for a two sets to none lead.
Despite falling behind 11-4 in set three, the Toros played the Broncos even the rest of the set, but it was too little too late as CPP took the set and the match for the sweep.
Giovannina De Sisto and
Makena Morrison led the Toros with nine assists and eight digs, respectively, in the sweep, CSUDH's third-straight match without claiming a set.
The Toros travel to crosstown-rival Cal State LA on Halloween, with first serve set for 2 pm.
