Toros takes down Western Oregon 3-1 to open the year strong at the CUI/APU Tournament.

IRVINE, Calif. – Cal State Dominguez Hills opened its 2025 season with a 3-1 victory over Western Oregon on Thursday evening at the CU Arena as part of the CUI/APU Tournament.

The Toros took the first two sets 25-18 and 26-24, before the Wolves answered in the third 25-23. CSUDH regrouped in the fourth to close out the match 25-18.

The offense was balanced with three Toros reaching double-figure kills. Bailey Fuches and Camryn Perdue each tallied 10, with Perdue hitting an impressive .714 while adding two blocks. Shyla Williams led the way with 12 kills and eight digs. Ava Hurry chipped in eight kills and seven digs, while Christina Sanzaro added six kills and two blocks.

Setter Jaiden Mojica guided the attack with 24 assists and 11 digs for a double-double, while Giovannina De Sisto also contributed 15 assists and three service aces. Nina Robles sparked the defense with a team-high 15 digs and added five service aces.

As a team, the Toros finished with 53 kills, 46 assists, 53 digs and 13 service aces.

"Strong start to the 2025 season. The Toros executed a consistent game on both ends offensively and defensively. Proud to see our hard work payoff," head coach Teddi Esko said.

CSUDH (1-0) continues tournament play Friday against host Concordia Irvine at 7 p.m.
