SEASIDE, Calif. – Cal State Dominguez Hills bounced back from a Game 1 shutout with an offensive explosion in the nightcap to earn a split against Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday afternoon in CCAA action at the Otter Sports Complex. After falling 2-0 in the opener, the Toros racked up 16 hits in Game 2 to secure a 7-4 victory and move to 31-22 overall and 18-16 in conference play.
Despite collecting five hits and putting multiple runners on base, CSUDH couldn't crack the scoreboard in a 2-0 loss to the Otters in the first game. Alexis Aguado went 2-for-4 to lead the Toros at the plate, while Kaylee Hull added a double. Ashley Ogata tossed five innings and allowed just two runs on six hits, while Lillianna Garcia threw a perfect sixth inning in relief. The Toros left seven runners on base in the shutout.
Game 2 was a different story as the Toros bats came alive with 16 hits, including four doubles, en route to a 7-4 win. Aguado led the charge, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a double. Jay Ross also tallied three hits and scored a run, while Hull drove in two and recorded a double of her own. Garcia opened the game in the circle before Ogata entered in relief, throwing five innings and earning her 11th win of the season. The Toros scored in five different innings, including a two-run seventh that put the game out of reach.
With the victory, the Toros clinch a berth in the CCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive season and remain in the hunt for seeding heading into the regular-season finale on Saturday.
The series concludes Saturday at 11 a.m. as the Toros look to secure another CCAA series victory with postseason play approaching.
