Johnson Drives in Four Runs as Toros Top Coyotes in Series Opener

CARSON, Calif,.- Cal State Dominguez Hills opened its four-game CCAA series on the road Thursday afternoon with a 9-4 win over Cal State San Bernardino at Fiscalini Field. The Toros strung together timely hitting and took advantage of strong middle innings to grab the series lead and improve to 26-16 overall and 22-11 in conference play.

Dylan Schumacher put CSUDH on the board in the third inning with a two-run homer to left center, and the Toros never looked back. After the Coyotes tied it up, Dominguez Hills pulled away in the sixth with three runs and tacked on two more in the seventh. Quinn Johnson provided a major spark, finishing 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a pair of doubles. He drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth and added a two-run double in the seventh.

Schumacher was equally productive, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBIs. Kaleb Castro had a three-hit day and scored three times, while Emilio Barrera drove in two runs with a key sixth-inning single.

On the mound, Darren Roberts stayed perfect on the season, earning the win to improve to 6-0. The left-hander allowed 12 hits but limited damage with key groundouts and stranded runners over five innings. Julian Castro followed with three shutout frames, and Teige Barrett closed the game in the ninth.
