Toros Fall in Series Finale, Celebrate Historic Basketball Seasons at Toro Field

CARSON, Calif,.- Cal State Dominguez Hills was unable to overcome a late offensive surge by Chico State, falling 12-0 in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Toro Field. Despite a strong start on the mound from Evan Vazquez, who struck out five over 6.2 innings, the Wildcats broke the game open with a three-run seventh and added seven runs in the final two frames to seal the win.

The Toro bats were limited to three hits in the contest, including singles from Quinn Johnson, Dominik Cervantes, and Emilio Barrera. Trey Winget reached base twice via walks, while the pitching staff combined for eight strikeouts on the day.

With the loss, Cal State Dominguez Hills moves to 25-16 overall and 21-11 in CCAA play. The Toros will look to bounce back on the road next weekend with a four-game conference series against Cal State San Bernardino, beginning Thursday, April 17.

MBB/WBB First Pitch with Baseball

In a special moment before the game, the Toro baseball program honored the men's and women's basketball teams for their historic 2024-25 seasons. Both teams reached the NCAA Division II National Championship game for the first time in program history. Several members of the basketball squads threw out ceremonial first pitches to recognize their outstanding achievements.
