CARSON, Calif,.- Cal State Dominguez Hills softball opened its four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association series with Sonoma State by earning a hard-fought doubleheader split Friday afternoon at Seawolf Softball Field. Behind a complete game from Ashley Ogata and a timely extra-base hit from Kaylee Hull, the Toros claimed Game 1 by a 3-2 margin before dropping the nightcap, 7-2.
Game 1 –Â
The Toros jumped out early in the opener, scoring twice in the first inning behind a two-RBI double from Hull, who drove in Jay Ross and Mireya Rico. Dominguez Hills added another in the third when Rico brought home Gaby Gandara on a sacrifice fly. The Seawolves responded with single runs in the third and sixth, but Ogata held strong in the circle, tossing a complete game while scattering seven hits and allowing just two earned runs. Ross reached base twice and scored a run while Hull added a game-high two RBIs.
Game 2 –
The Seawolves bounced back in Game 2, using a five-run burst over the first three innings to take control. The Toros answered in the third with a sacrifice fly from Gandara and later added another RBI single by the senior outfielder in the seventh, but it wasn't enough. Alexis Aguado led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance, including two doubles and a run scored. Ross and Kaylee Hull each added two hits in the loss, while Alivia Holden provided four innings in relief, striking out two.
The series concludes Saturday, April 12th with another CCAA doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m second game scheduled for 1pm in Rohnert Park.
