Toros Split Doubleheader at San Francisco State

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif,.-  Cal State Dominguez Hills split its Saturday doubleheader against San Francisco State, falling 9-2 in game one before bouncing back with a 4-3 win in game two at Maloney Field. With the split, the Toros move to 12-8 overall and 8-3 in CCAA play.

Game 1: 

San Francisco State took control early, scoring twice in the second inning before breaking the game open with a five-run third. The Toros struggled offensively, managing just four hits in the contest.

Dominguez Hills got on the board in the eighth when Jared Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Kaleb Castro. In the ninth, Jacob Pfitzner reached on an error, allowing Olin Snakenborg to score an unearned run.

Anderson finished 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Quinn Johnson, Dominik Cervantes, and Pfitzner each recorded a hit.

On the mound, Trysten Eddy (1-2) took the loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits in 2.2 innings. Brian Kraft, JJ Nolan, and Brett Castillo combined for 5.1 innings of relief, holding the Gators to two runs the rest of the way.

Game 2: 

The Toros bounced back in game two, edging out San Francisco State 4-3 in a tight battle. Jacob Pfitzner's solo home run in the sixth proved to be the difference, while the pitching staff held the Gators in check.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Dominguez Hills tied it in the third when Noah Karliner singled to left center, scoring Kaleb Castro. The Toros took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on a Gators error that allowed Teige Barrett to score.

Following a game-tying home run by the Gators, Dylan Schumacher came through in the fifth with an RBI single up the middle, bringing home Anderson to regain the lead. Pfitzner then provided insurance in the sixth with a solo home run to center field.

Anderson led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base, while Schumacher finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Castro added a 2-for-3 performance, and Karliner and Pfitzner each recorded an RBI.

Justin Abercrombie (4-1) picked up the win, striking out eight over 5.1 innings while allowing three runs on seven hits. Julian Castro closed the door with 1.2 scoreless innings, earning his fourth save of the season.

The Toros conclude the series against San Francisco State on Sunday, March 9, with first pitch set for 12 p.m..
