Toros Take Opening Doubleheader Against Wildcats in Extra-Inning Thriller

CHICO, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team opened their series against Chico State with a statement, sweeping the Wildcats in Friday's doubleheader at Wildcat Field. The Toros took Game 1 with a 6-2 victory behind timely hitting and strong pitching before edging out the Wildcats 4-3 in a thrilling 10-inning battle in Game 2.

Game 1:

Dominguez Hills jumped out to an early lead in the first when Jay Ross drove in Alexis Aguado with an RBI single. Ross later came around to score on a defensive miscue, giving the Toros a 2-0 advantage.

After the Wildcats tied the game in the third, the Toros responded with a three-run fifth inning. Torie Au delivered an RBI double to right field, scoring Aguado, before Lillianna Garcia came through with a clutch two-run double to center, extending the lead to 5-2.

Gaby Gandara added an insurance run in the seventh with a groundout that brought Ross home.

Garcia (5-1) earned the win in relief, tossing two innings while allowing just one run and striking out four. Alivia Holden recorded her first save of the season, holding the Wildcats scoreless over the final 2.1 innings.

Jay Ross led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance, scoring twice and driving in a run. Torie Au, Lillianna Garcia, and Kaylee Hull each recorded a double, while Alexis Aguado crossed the plate twice.

Game 2:

In the nightcap, the Toros struck first when Garcia drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in Ross. However, the Wildcats answered with runs in the first, second, and fifth innings to take a 3-1 lead.

Dominguez Hills rallied in the seventh, with Ross delivering a two-run single to left to tie the game at 3-3 and send it into extra innings.

After a tense scoreless stretch, the Toros broke through in the 10th when Garcia roped a double down the left field line, bringing home Izabella Chavez for the go-ahead run.

Garcia (7-1) was also dominant in the circle, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing just four hits. Holden closed out the final 2.1 innings, giving up one run but securing the victory.

Ross once again led the way offensively, finishing 2-for-5 with two RBIs, while Garcia added a double and drove in two. Aguado tallied a hit and a stolen base, and the Toros capitalized on three Wildcat errors.
