TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team put on a dominant display on the road, securing back-to-back shutout victories against Stanislaus State in a CCAA doubleheader on Friday. The Toros took Game 1 with a 4-0 win before completing the sweep with a 3-0 victory in Game 2.
Game 1:
The Toros broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Julissa Gomez delivered an RBI single to right, bringing home Mia Ayala for the game's first run. Dominguez Hills extended its lead in the fifth, with Mireya Rico driving in Jay Ross on an RBI single before Lillianna Garcia came through with a clutch two-run single to center to put the game out of reach.
The Toros' pitching was dominant from start to finish, allowing just one hit in the shutout. Ashley Ogata, Garcia (9-1), and Alivia Holden combined for the stellar performance, with Holden earning her second save of the season.
Offensively, the Toros recorded 15 hits, led by Ross, who went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Garcia added three hits and two RBIs, while Rico, Ayala, and Kaylee Hull each had multi-hit performances.
Game 2:
Game 2 was another pitching masterclass for Dominguez Hills, as the Toros held the Warriors scoreless once again while delivering timely hits to secure the win.
The game remained 0-0 until the sixth, when Ross came through with an RBI double down the left field line to score Aguado. Moments later, Alani Nguyen stepped up and delivered a two-run double to right center, bringing home Kwiatkowski and Ayala to seal the victory.
Garcia (10-1) picked up her second win of the day, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. Holden followed with two shutout innings to earn her third save of the season.
Ross, Nguyen, and Hull led the offense with key extra-base hits, while Aguado and Rico each recorded multi-hit games.
The Toros will look to keep their momentum going as they conclude their series against Stanislaus State with another doubleheader on Saturday, March 22, with first pitch set for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
