Box Score 2 CARSON, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team wrapped up its four-game series against Cal State East Bay with two hard-fought battles but came up short in both games on Saturday at Toro Diamond. Despite a strong offensive showing in Game 1, the Toros fell 4-7 before dropping the series finale 2-5.
Game 1:
The Toros found themselves in an early hole as the Pioneers plated five runs in the first three innings. Dominguez Hills responded with a run in the first when Jay Ross led off with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Mireya Rico.
Trailing 5-1 in the fifth, the Toros fought back as Ross launched a two-run homer to left, and Kaylee Hull followed with a solo shot to trim the deficit to 5-4. However, the Pioneers tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth, and the Toros were unable to complete the comeback.
Ross led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Hull also added a homer. Rico and Gaby Gandara each contributed a hit, and Alexis Aguado scored a run.
Alivia Holden took the loss, allowing five earned runs on eight hits in 2.2 innings. Ashley Ogata and Ally Fuentes combined for 4.1 innings of relief, holding the Pioneers to two runs on four hits.
Game 2:
The Toros looked to bounce back in Game 2 came up short as they fell 2-5.
They will now hit the road to begin another CCAA series against Chico State, with a doubleheader set for Friday, March 7, at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
