No. 19 Toros Cap Regular Season with Road Win

HAYWARD, Calif. – The No. 19 Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a strong road win, defeating Cal State East Bay 84-75 on Saturday night. With the victory, the Toros improved to 23-5 overall and 20-2 in CCAA play, securing the CCAA regular-season championship and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

The game was tightly contested in the first half, with the lead changing hands 18 times. The Toros relied on their defensive pressure and rebounding dominance to stay ahead, holding a narrow 36-35 advantage at halftime.

Dominguez Hills took control in the second half, shooting an efficient 48.3% from the field while knocking down 7-of-13 from beyond the arc (53.8%). Jeremy Dent-Smith provided a standout performance, leading the team with 30 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists, marking another dominant effort from the senior guard.

David Cheatom added a strong inside presence with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Jordan Hilstock chipped in 12 points, four rebounds, and three steals, knocking down four three-pointers. Alex Garcia contributed 11 points and three rebounds, and Adam Afifi anchored the paint with five points and three rebounds.

The Toros won the rebounding battle 46-32, reinforcing their status as the No. 1 rebounding team in the CCAA (37.6 RPG). They also continued to showcase their balanced play, ranking No. 3 in the conference in both scoring offense (77.2 PPG) and defense (63.9 PPG allowed).

With the victory, Dominguez Hills secured back-to-back CCAA regular-season championships for the first time in program history, having shared the title last season with Cal State San Bernardino.

The Toros now shift their focus to the CCAA Tournament, hosted by Cal State San Marcos from March 6-8th, where they will have a first-round bye before opening play in the semifinals.
