Toros Take Doubleheader Against Warriors, Extend Winning Streak

CARSON, Calif. – Cal State Dominguez Hills continued its strong start to conference play, sweeping Saturday's doubleheader against Stanislaus State with a 4-1 win in game one and a 5-1 victory in game two at Toro Field. The Toros (10-6, 6-1 CCAA) relied on dominant pitching and timely hitting to secure their fourth straight win.

Game 1:

Dominguez Hills broke through in the fifth inning when Noah Karliner delivered an RBI single to score Jared Anderson. A defensive miscue allowed Karliner to cross the plate moments later, giving the Toros a 2-0 lead.

After the Warriors cut the deficit in the seventh, the Toros responded immediately. Quinn Johnson singled home Anderson to make it 3-1, and Jacob Pfitzner added an insurance run in the eighth with a sacrifice fly.

Anderson led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance and two runs scored, while Karliner went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Emilio Barrera added a double, and Johnson finished with an RBI single.

On the mound, Trysten Eddy (1-0) picked up the win, tossing seven strong innings while allowing just one run on four hits and striking out four. Chris Cornelius and Julian Castro combined to close out the final two frames, with Castro earning the save.

Game 2:

The Toros wasted no time in game two, as Karliner launched a solo home run in the first inning to set the tone. The offense broke it open in the fourth, scoring three runs behind a string of extra-base hits. Quinn Johnson doubled to lead off the inning, followed by a Dylan Schumacher RBI double and an Emilio Barrera RBI double. Teige Barrett capped the rally with an RBI single to give the Toros a commanding 4-0 lead.

Karliner struck again in the fifth with his second home run of the game, pushing the lead to 5-0. The Warriors managed to plate a run in the sixth, but the Toros' pitching held firm.

Karliner led the charge, finishing 2-for-3 with two home runs and two RBIs. Johnson, Schumacher, and Barrera each doubled, with Barrera and Barrett adding an RBI apiece.

Justin Abercrombie (2-1) was dominant on the mound, throwing six innings and allowing just one unearned run while striking out nine. Barrett took the mound in the seventh, securing the final three outs to earn the save.

The Toros conclude their series against Stanislaus State on Sunday, March 2, with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
