IRVINE, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros battled but fell short in a 9-5 loss to Concordia University Irvine on Friday. The Toros showed resilience late but could not overcome an early deficit against the Golden Eagles.
Concordia struck first, scoring a run in the opening frame before adding two more in the third on a two-run home run. The Toros answered in the fourth when Teige Barrett singled to center field, driving in Quincy Johnson to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Golden Eagles responded with a four-run fifth inning, capitalizing on an error and a two-RBI single to extend their lead to 7-1.
Dominguez Hills continued to battle, with Barrett launching a solo home run in the seventh to make it 8-2. In the eighth, Ben Davidson reached on a single before Emilio Barrera delivered a two-run shot to left field, trimming the deficit to 9-4. The Toros added one more in the ninth when Dylan Schumacher scored on a groundout, but the late rally fell short.
Barrett led the Toros offensively, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and a run scored. Barrera added a 1-for-3 performance with a home run and two RBIs, while Schumacher finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Davidson contributed a hit and a run scored off the bench.
On the mound, Trysten Eddy took the loss after allowing six earned runs over 4.1 innings. The bullpen provided solid relief, with Barrett tossing a scoreless eighth inning while striking out two.
The Toros will look to regroup as they will face CUI in another road contest double-header tomorrow Feb 8th at 1pm and 4:30pm.
