Toros Shut Out Warriors to Open Series

CARSON, Calif. – Cal State Dominguez Hills delivered a dominant pitching performance to secure a 4-0 shutout victory over Stanislaus State in the series opener Friday afternoon at Toro Field. The Toros (8-6, 4-1 CCAA) held the Warriors to just three hits while using timely hitting to pull away late.

The game remained scoreless through five innings as both teams struggled to generate offense. The Toros broke through in the sixth when Quinn Johnson's sacrifice fly brought home Jared Anderson for the game's first run. Moments later, Teige Barrett singled to drive in Noah Karliner, giving Dominguez Hills a 2-0 lead.

In the seventh, Olin Snakenborg doubled with one out before Karliner came through with an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0. The Toros added one more insurance run in the eighth when Dylan Schumacher led off with a single and later scored on an RBI single from Emilio Barrera.

Karliner led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance, driving in one run and scoring another. Anderson also went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Schumacher contributed two hits and a run. Barrett finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Barrera added an RBI single. Snakenborg chipped in with a key double and a run scored.

Dominguez Hills' pitching staff was outstanding, with starter D. Roberts earning the win after tossing six shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five. Julian Castro took over in the seventh and was flawless, retiring all nine batters he faced over three perfect innings to earn the save.

The Toros return to action in the same series tomorrow, March 1, with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
