Toros Split Doubleheader Against La Sierra, Secure Game Two Victory

CARSON, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros split its non-conference doubleheader against La Sierra University on Sunday afternoon at Toro Field. The Toros dropped the opener 6-3 before bouncing back with a strong 5-2 victory in game two.

Game 1:
La Sierra took control early, scoring twice in the first inning and adding another run in the third before a three-run fourth put the Toros in a 6-0 hole. Dominguez Hills struggled offensively until the eighth, when Dylan Schumacher launched a two-run home run to put the Toros on the board. Jacob Pfitzner followed with a sacrifice fly to bring in another run, but the rally fell short as the Toros were held scoreless in the ninth.

Schumacher led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Emilio Barrera added a hit and a run, while Jared Anderson went 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

On the mound, Derek Goodrich (1-1) took the loss, allowing three runs over three innings. Trysten Eddy and Aiden Taylor combined for six innings of relief, with Taylor tossing two scoreless frames.

Game 2:

Dominguez Hills responded in game two with a fast start, scoring three runs in the first inning. Emilio Barrera drove in two with a single to center, and Teige Barrett followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0. The Toros extended their lead in the third when Schumacher belted his second home run of the day, a two-run shot to put CSUDH up 5-0.

Schumacher continued his impressive day, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Noah Karliner also had a strong performance, going 2-for-3 with a double, while Quinn Johnson added two hits and a run scored.

On the mound, Justin Abercrombie (2-0) was dominant, throwing four shutout innings while allowing just one hit and striking out six. Evan Vazquez closed out the final three innings, surrendering two runs but securing the win.

The Toros will now turn their attention to CCAA play as they hit the road to open conference action against Cal State San Marcos. Game one of the series is set for Friday at 2 p.m.
