No. 3 Toros Dominate Stanislaus State, Improve to 25-0

TURLOCK, Calif. — The No. 3 Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros continued its historic run with a commanding 93-54 road victory over Stanislaus State on Thursday night at Fitzpatrick Arena. The Toros, now 25-0 overall and 17-0 in CCAA play, remain the undisputed top team in the conference, boasting the No. 1-ranked offense, defense, and scoring margin in the CCAA.

The opening quarter was tightly contested, with both teams exchanging baskets early. The Toros shot an efficient 60% from the field in the first 10 minutes, with Nala Williams and Kya Pearson each knocking down key three-pointers. Williams, the conference's leading scorer, set the tone with seven points in the first quarter, helping Dominguez Hills take a 20-18 lead.

In the second quarter, the Toros asserted their dominance, outscoring the Warriors 29-12. Their defensive intensity picked up, forcing 11 turnovers in the quarter while holding Stanislaus State to 41.7% shooting. Williams and Joe'l Benoit combined for 10 points in the period, while Cristina Jones controlled the glass, pulling down seven first-half rebounds. The Toros entered halftime with a comfortable 49-30 lead.

The third quarter saw Dominguez Hills continue its defensive clinic, limiting the Warriors to just 12 points. Asia Jordan, ranked third in the CCAA in field goal percentage, was dominant in the paint, finishing with 11 points and four rebounds while anchoring the defensive effort. Williams dished out three assists in the period, reinforcing her standing as the CCAA leader in assists.

The Toros closed out the game in dominant fashion, outscoring Stanislaus State 26-12 in the fourth quarter. Pearson and Teagan Thurman helped stretch the lead, combining for nine points, while Devon Lewis, the conference leader in assist-to-turnover ratio, orchestrated the offense efficiently. Williams, ranked No. 1 in steals in the CCAA, was a defensive force once again, recording three steals, while Pearson added two of her own to maintain her No. 3 ranking in the conference.

Williams led all scorers with 22 points, going 8-for-11 from the field, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. She also added five rebounds, five assists, and three steals in another well-rounded performance. Jones was a force on the boards, finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds. Jordan contributed 11 points and four rebounds, while Pearson added 12 points and five rebounds off the bench. Benoit filled the stat sheet with five points, four assists, and three steals, while Thurman and Kylee Edgar each chipped in seven points.

The Toros' defense was relentless, forcing 24 turnovers and turning them into 35 points. They also dominated the rebounding battle, securing a 45-31 edge and scoring 36 points in the paint.

Dominguez Hills stays on the road, heading to Seaside, California, to face Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m. as they look to extend their remarkable winning streak.
