Toros Fall in Doubleheader at Biola, Look to Bounce Back at Home

LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros struggled to find offensive momentum Tuesday, falling in both games of a doubleheader against Biola at Freedom Field. The Toros dropped a tightly contested 2-0 decision in Game 1 before falling 5-0 in Game 2.

In the opener, the Toros were held to just two hits, both from Alexis Aguado, as they were shut out for the first time this season. Despite a strong combined pitching performance from Ashley Ogata and Lillianna Garcia, the Eagles plated a run in the first inning and added another in the third to secure the win. Garcia, who entered in relief, took the loss after allowing two earned runs on six hits over four innings.

Game 2 saw the Toros collect seven hits but struggle to bring runners home. A scoreless game through two innings, the Eagles broke through in the third and then used a four-run fifth to put the game out of reach. Mireya Rico led the offense with two hits, while Jay Ross, Sam Kwiatkowski, Andrea Tellez, Julisa Gomez, and Gaby Gandara each added one. Ashley Ogata took the loss in the circle, allowing five runs—only one earned—on six hits over 4.2 innings. Alivia Holden finished the game with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.

Statistical leaders on the day included Aguado, who went 2-for-3 in Game 1, and Rico, who finished with a team-high two hits in Game 2. The Toros' pitching staff combined to allow just one earned run in each game, but defensive miscues and a lack of run support proved costly.

Cal State Dominguez Hills will look to rebound when they return home to face Azusa Pacific in a doubleheader at Toro Diamond on Friday February 14th, with first pitch set for 12 p.m. and the second game to follow at 2 p.m.
