Toros Drop Doubleheader in First CCAA Games Against Coyotes

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.-The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros opened their 2025 CCAA campaign with a doubleheader loss against the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes. Despite a strong start in both games, the Toros were unable to overcome the Coyotes' timely offense. In the first game, the Toros fell 4-2, and in the second game, they lost 4-1.

Game 1:
The Toros struck first in the opening game, as Mireya Rico singled to center in the top of the first inning, bringing home Alexis Aguado for a 1-0 lead. However, the Coyotes answered in the bottom of the third with an RBI single and a wild pitch that gave them a 2-1 advantage. They extended their lead in the fourth, scoring two more runs on a single and a wild pitch. The Toros threatened in the seventh inning when Torie Au singled to second base, driving in Julisa Gomez for their second run, but they were unable to complete the comeback.

Alivia Holden (1-2) was charged with the loss after throwing five innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits. Lillianna Garcia pitched one inning in relief, surrendering two additional runs.

In the first game, Mireya Rico led the offense, going 1-for-2 with an RBI. Julisa Gomez also had a strong showing, finishing 1-for-1 with a run scored. On the mound, Alivia Holden recorded two strikeouts in her five innings of work.

Game 2:

The second game was a tightly contested affair until the Coyotes broke through in the second inning, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI single. The Toros responded in the fourth, as Kaylee Hull singled to left field to score Izabella Chavez, tying the game at 1-1. But the Coyotes regained the lead in the same inning, and then added two more in the sixth with a pair of RBI doubles. The Toros were unable to muster another rally, leaving them with a 4-1 loss.

Ashley Ogata (3-3) was handed the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings. Holden came on in relief and kept the Coyotes off the scoreboard for the final 0.2 innings.

In the second game, Julisa Gomez stood out at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two singles. Kaylee Hull also contributed with a hit and an RBI. Defensively, Ashley Ogata struck out three batters in her outing.

The Toros will return to the field tomorrow for another doubleheader against Cal State San Bernardino, with the first game scheduled for 12 p.m. and the second at 2 p.m.
