CARSON, Calif. — The No. 3 Cal State Dominguez HillsToros continued their dominant season, defeating Cal State San Marcos 65-44 on Saturday afternoon at the Torodome. With the win, the Toros improved to 22-0 overall and 14-0 in CCAA play, maintaining their perfect record as they remain atop the conference standings.
The Toros started strong in the first quarter, shooting 70% from the field and taking a 19-15 lead. Nala Williams led the early charge with seven points, including a three-pointer, while Asia Jordan controlled the paint with four points and three rebounds. Dominguez Hills' defense forced six turnovers, converting them into quick transition points.
In the second quarter, the Toros increased their defensive pressure, holding San Marcos to just 12 points while extending their lead to 34-27 at halftime. Williams remained aggressive, adding six more points, while Devon Lewis provided key rebounds and assists to keep the offense flowing. Dominguez Hills forced 13 first-half turnovers and held San Marcos to 40% shooting.
The Toros took full control in the third quarter, outscoring the Cougars 16-4. The defense was suffocating, holding San Marcos to just 10% shooting from the field. Jordan was dominant inside, scoring six points and grabbing four rebounds, while Teagan Thurman added four points to push the lead to 50-31 entering the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Dominguez Hills maintained their defensive intensity and closed out the game with a 15-13 advantage. The Toros forced five more turnovers, while Lewis and Williams combined for seven points to seal the victory.
Williams led all scorers with 21 points, shooting 8-for-21 from the field, including two three-pointers, while adding four rebounds and four steals. Jordan had 15 points and 9 rebounds, providing a strong presence in the paint. Lewis controlled the tempo with seven points, a career high 11 rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Malia Goldsmith added 10 points off the bench, knocking down two three-pointers, and Thurman chipped in four points and three rebounds.
The Toros' defense was the difference, forcing 26 turnovers and scoring 17 points off those mistakes. Dominguez Hills also dominated the glass, out-rebounding San Marcos 46-24, while scoring 36 points in the paint.
The Toros will return to action at home on Tuesday, February 6, for another CCAA matchup against Cal State San Bernardino at 5:30 p.m. as they look to keep their perfect season alive.
