No. 3 Toros Remain NCAA Division II’s Only Unbeaten Team, Clinch Spot in CCAA Tournament

CARSON, Calif. — The No. 3 Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros continued their perfect season with a dominant 70-54 victory over Cal State San Bernardino on Tuesday night at the Torodome. With the win, the Toros improved to 23-0 overall and 15-0 in CCAA play, remaining the only undefeated team in NCAA Division II basketball. The victory also secured Dominguez Hills a spot in the CCAA Tournament, which will be hosted by Cal State San Marcos from March 6-8.

The Toros started slow in the first quarter, trailing 16-14 after the opening 10 minutes. Nala Williams kept the offense steady, scoring seven points in the frame, while the defense forced four turnovers.

Dominguez Hills responded in the second quarter with an aggressive defensive effort, holding San Bernardino to just eight points on 21.4% shooting. Teagan Thurman provided a spark off the bench, scoring six points, while Williams knocked down a three-pointer to give the Toros a 31-24 advantage at halftime.

The Toros maintained control in the third quarter, outscoring the Coyotes 17-19. Asia Jordan made her presence felt in the paint, pulling down five rebounds while contributing five points. Devon Lewis facilitated the offense, dishing out key assists as Dominguez Hills entered the final quarter with a 48-43 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Toros closed out the game with a dominant 22-11 run. Williams added another eight points, including two three-pointers, while Thurman anchored the defense with two blocks and six rebounds. Dominguez Hills shot 58.3% from the field in the final quarter to put the game out of reach.

Williams led all scorers with 25 points, shooting 9-of-15 from the field, 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, while adding three rebounds, three steals, and three assists. Thurman recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Jordan added seven points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Lewis contributed six rebounds and two assists, and Kylee Edgar added three points off the bench.

The Toros' defense was a key factor in the win, forcing 24 turnovers and turning them into 19 points. Dominguez Hills also dominated on the glass with a 44-38 rebounding advantage and controlled the paint with 36 points inside.

Cal State Dominguez Hills will return to action at home on Saturday, February 8, for another CCAA matchup against #19 Cal Poly Pomona at 1 p.m. as they look to extend their historic winning streak.
