Toros Outlast Vulcans in Extra-Inning Thriller at Concordia Kickoff Classic

IRVINE, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros battled through 12 innings to earn a dramatic 4-3 victory over Hawai'i Hilo in their first game of the day at the Concordia Kickoff Classic Saturday afternoon. Alani Nguyen's walk-off single sealed the win for the Toros in a back-and-forth contest at Great Park Stadium.

Dominguez Hills took an early lead in the third inning when Alexis Aguado delivered an RBI single to right field, scoring Samantha Kwiatkowski. The Toros extended their lead to 2-0 in the fifth when Torie Au doubled to left field, bringing Kwiatkowski home for her second run of the game.

The Vulcans, however, mounted a late comeback, scoring twice in the seventh to force extra innings. They briefly took the lead in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly, but the Toros responded immediately in the bottom half. Jay Ross came through with a clutch RBI single to left field, allowing Aguado to score and keep the game alive.

Both teams remained locked in a 3-3 tie until the bottom of the 12th, when Mireya Rico reached base and was brought home on Nguyen's game-winning single to left center, securing the Toros' first victory of the season.

Dominguez Hills recorded eight hits, led by Au and Ross, who each finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Aguado and Nguyen also drove in runs, with Nguyen delivering the decisive hit. Kwiatkowski was a key contributor on the base paths, scoring twice.

The Toros will look to carry their momentum on the day as they will play Fort Lewis College at 6:30pm for their second game of the day in Invine.
